LADIES IN WAITING is a foundation that helps less fortunate girls in impoverished countries and the unfortunate in the United States of America. Our main goal is to provide personal aid and sensitive support through one of the most poignant times during a young girl’s life. Ladies In Waiting aims to help young girls during their last four years of high school and to see them succeed.
The foundation does this by providing support for supplementary clothing, shoes, toiletries, books and monetary assistance. Our goal is to help these young girls worry less about their present condition and concentrate more on their school work and achieving high grades. In consequence, this act of service will ultimately provide a stable opportunity for our young girls as well as lessens the stress in the homes of these children.
The foundation is based upon my own childhood experience growing up in Jamaica. With my mother as a single parent and with no help or additional support, I witness my mother struggle to provide a decent life for all 5 of her children. But more specially, my mother raised 4 daughters and put them through secondary education. Like most third world countries, the West Indies places a great amount of pressure to attend high school and it’s become the most critical part of education in our country. In essence, it’s either a break it or make it opportunity for schooling.
And if there is more than one child in the household, the other children may get neglect not because of selfishness but because necessities and lack of resources. In these homes, the child who gets to attend high school is priority; so this foundation aims to close the unfortunate gaps limiting these young girls from living their full potential and attaining a high form of education.
I've also learned of some countries in Africa where young girls, as young 13yr, are being exchange for livestock to much older men (70yr) in order to help out their family. And consequently, if these men die after only a few years in the relationship, the young girl is left alone with child(ren) and no education. This is just one of the areas this foundation wants to help prevent and protect our young women of the world.
Our immediate and proactive short terms goals are to assist with these young girls with their personal needs and school supplies. We will provide personal items, school supplies, monetary aid for school transportation and lunches. Our permanent long term goal is to provide housing in our countries for young girls during all 4 years of high school. In addition to housing, this foundation will provide independent skills, lessons on standards and teaching godly etiquette. A woman learning how to wait and cease.
"I believe a helping hand to the next girl helps the next household, which helps the next generation. The right opportunity can lead to the best future."
Sincerely,
Jennifer Marlowe
